Pop Art Dog
A pop art dog inspired by the comics. I won’t mention the famous artist who worked in this style. Though I enjoy looking at his pieces, I find myself troubled by his appropriation without attribution of the work of some very talented comics artists. But I do like the style enough to pay tribute to it here.
I recently finished David Hadju’s The 10 Cent Plague, which is about the comic-book witch hunts of the 40s and 50s. One former comics pro interviewed in that book says that the pop artist appropriated, but “wasn’t good enough to have worked in comics”. As a fan of the comics form and as someone who’s looked at side-by-side comparisons of the paintings versus the original source, the originals usually have much better draftsmanship in both line and expressed emotion. This is a great way to start an argument, and I am not going to say more or comment further on this.
