Back to School Dog

August 27th, 2008

I finished teaching last Friday, and the kids all went back to school this week. Ugh.

Can I admit how much I hated school? I did well enough, but I hated almost every minute of it. I remember early on sitting in class and working out how many days of misery I had left until I graduated. In second grade, this was an ungodly number of hours.

I got a note from a friend who’s just gone back to school. She suggested maybe a dog lost and confused in a crowded new school. Crowd scenes… I didn’t have the time today. But I had this image, which is pretty much how I felt on back-to-school day. I remember that it rained a lot during that period, and I’m sure I’m exaggerating the amount of precipitation we got in late summer. Conversely, I cannot remember rainy days in early summer, when school was coming to an end.

Anyway, to all you poor miserable kids (and teachers) returning to the florescent-lit halls of academia, I dedicate today’s dog.

Oh, and it’s either a peanut butter or baloney sandwich in that lunchbox.
