Bomb Dog
November 7th, 2008
Well, yesterday in the late afternoon my computer started to slow and occasionally freeze for a minute or two before going on. Then the drive went kablooey. It’s a software thing, and I have thorough backups. But that doesn’t mean that it didn’t take me all day today to get things sorted (and they still aren’t, I’m on my laptop while waiting for the restore to finish in a few hours).
This morning, I got an email from my father wondering why Dog a Day Project was late. I had finished and uploaded the dog, but I hadn’t written and scheduled the entry required to put it live. And I forgot I hadn’t done that during the panic. I got it up early, but if you checked yesterday and think I missed, go back and look to see the dog you missed.
Anyway, by the time you read this my problems will be solved. Or else there will be no more dogs because I’ll have leapt through the window. Stay tuned. And back up regularly. I preach this, and I had a backup as new as yesterday at 3:30 pm. It pays to be paranoid about data loss.
