Battersea Tribute Dog

November 14th, 2008

Okay, some of you will recognize the reference here. For the rest of you, check this out. This may be my favorite Pink Floyd album, and really only because it contains the track Dogs. The rest is okay, but Dogs is a 17-minute piece of haunting guitar and angry lyrics with some odd synthesized dog barks. So if you can’t tell, the original featured a picture of an inflatable pig floating over the Battersea Power Station (in London, dont’cha know).

To extend the connection, Battersea is also home to the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. When I lived just south of Battersea Park, I would often see volunteers taking these dogs out for exercise. And I would see the Power Station every time I returned home using the Victoria Station route. This really is one of my favorite London landmarks, even though it’s empty and dilapidated.
