Early Christmas Dog
November 19th, 2008
It’s been going on for a month now. SInce before October. But I’m finally irritated enough to do a dog expressing my feelings. It isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, and the Christmas music is everywhere. I can kinda sorta understand it in some stores, where they rely on Christmas for their survival. But only kinda.
But radio stations going to an all-Christmas format already? It makes me glad that I have my own studio and am in charge of the background entertainment. There are stations that push themselves as being acceptable to the whole office (which means completely inoffensive, vanilla, boring and awful, with lots of Brian Adams and Celine Dion). But these go all Christmas at this time of the year. No wonder there are workplace shootings. I’d go nuts with rubber bands and possibly staples, laughing frantically.
As for me, I’m allowed to put on the Christmas entertainment only AFTER Thanksgiving. That’s when I pull out my Vince Guaraldi “A Charlie Brown Christmas” soundtrack (excellent piano ensemble jazz) and watch some Christmas cartoons on TV. Maybe decorate the house around December 14. I love Christmas. But I love Christmas because it only comes once a year. Their ruining that, those keepers of the airwaves, by making Christmas from one-sixth to (believe it or not) one-quarter of the year.
Pull the plug, folks. And listen to better radio stations.
